Nokia's OVI mail application reaches 1 million mark

According to Nokia, its Ovi email application has been activated a million times on Nokia devices. While only 650,000 accounts were in fact created, Nokia still considers this a landmark in the development of OVI software and a sign that there is "a real appetite in the developing world for these types of tailored services".

However, Nokia still has a long way to go in my opinion. If you consider that Gmail has well over 100 million users worldwide, who are now able to seemlessly integrate their accounts into Android phones, it seems like Nokia is so far behind, it might actually never catch up.

"More than just reaching a company milestone, this proves to us that there is a real appetite in the developing world for these types of tailored services," said Tom Furlong, head of Consumer Messaging at Nokia. "For first-time email users, Ovi Mail provides a digital identity and we are thrilled by its rapidly rising adoption rate."
